Savak Masani Elocution Competition

The Annual ‘Savak Masani Elocution Competiton’ 2024-25 was held on the 7th of December 2024 at S.M. Joshi Hindi Madhyamic Vidyalaya by Rotary Club of Poona. 52 students from 16 Schools participated in the Competition.

The topics were " Is renewable energy set to replace fossil fuels" for Junior group from Stds 6th&7th. And “Globalisation: Has it helped or hindered economic growth." for Senior group from 8th& 9th std.

Rtn. Rumi Jambusarwalla organised the event and also sponsored the trophies, prizes and certificates. All the students spoke confidently with knowledgeable content and gave their best to win the trophies. Certificates were given to all the participants.

S.M. Joshi Hindi Mahavidyalaya also thanked the Rotary Club of Poona for the generous donation of a projector and screen in the closing session of the competition.

Inauguration of Paedriatric Ward

On 18th December 2024, a significant milestone was achieved with the official inauguration and handing over of a 70-bed Paediatric ward at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Cantonment Hospital, located within the Fatimabai Maternity Ward which aims at providing improved healthcare facilities for children in Pune and surrounding areas, especially for those from underserved communities.

The primary funding for the paediatric ward came from Mr. Kaizar Poonawala. The Rotary Club of Poona and Rotary Club of Pune Sinhgad Road, as well as ZS Associates, also played a significant role with its members generously donating funds to further the cause. The Rotary Club of Poona Trust also made provisions for the well-being of newborns, donating 30 blankets and mosquito nets to ensure a comfortable and safe environment for the little ones.

The formal handing over of the facility was done by Brig. Vasudeva, in his capacity as President of the Cantonment Board. Prominent figures from the Rotary Clubs, ZS Associates and the Cantonment Board, RCP President General Amar Krishna,  Rtn. Zarir Dadachanji (Director Community Services) Rtn. Narender Bakshi (IPP and prime mover of the project) key healthcare professionals from the hospital. Dr. Usha Tapase (RMO) and Dr. Dalvi were also present.
