Strengthening Life Saving Emergency Medical Services (EMS) at Accord

Multispeciality Hospital in Moshi, Pune by Rotary Club of Pune Heritage
The most expensive commodity in medical emergencies is time. Time saves life. The
first 60 minutes after a traumatic injury or medical emergency is known as the Golden
Hour. Significant delays in the crucial Golden Hour result in  otherwise preventable
mortality and long-term morbidity, especially for trauma, cardiac, and stroke patients.
To address this critical issue of time and to ensure that a patient gets prompt
appropriate medical treatment in the Golden Hour to prevent death or severe long term
complications, Rotary Club of Pune Heritage, Dist 3131, planned to strengthen the
the EMS of Accord Multispeciality Hospital by donating an ALS Ambulance, an
ICU Ventilator and a Defibrillator, having a total project cost of INR 21 lacs. As its
CSR initiative, Skye Batteries Pvt. Ltd, Pune funded the entire project. This was a
CSR Grant project, routed through RI.
Accord Multispeciality Hospital is the only 150 bedded Hospital located centrally at
Moshi on Pune-Nashik Highway. The Highway stretch from Moshi to Narayangaon
represents a  high-risk corridor marked by frequent road traffic accidents, industrial
mishaps, and rising instances of cardiac and stroke emergencies. This belt has a
population of 3 lakh residents across Moshi, Chakan, Dehu, and Alandi, and also
houses over 2 lakh industrial workers employed across 1,000+ factories. The target
population is highly vulnerable, with 60–65% of potential beneficiaries being
economically weaker patients who cannot afford private emergency transport service.
The Hospital already caters to over 50,000 patients every year, of which more than
5,000 patients will benefit  from this addition of 24 x 7 EMS. The introduction of
an ALS ambulance equipped with ventilator and defibrillator will cover an emergency
radius of about 20 - 25 km around Moshi and stabilize and safely transfer 1000 - 1200
crititical patients each year, many of whom would otherwise face fatal delays. About
400–500 industrial or road-traffic accident victims will benefit each year from on-site
stabilization. The mortality rate can be brought down by more than half. The hospital
will be better prepared to handle industrial and mass casualty incidents saving an
estimated 150–200 additional lives annually through faster intervention.
When an ambulance reaches in time, it doesn’t just save one life — it saves an entire
family from heartbreak. This impactful humanitarian project will create a ripple effect
across the community, inspiring industries, philanthropists and individuals to
contribute toward strengthening emergency healthcare. Together we can unite to
ensure that every call for help is answered and every life gets the chance it deserves.
