Can you imagine crossing the road with your eyes closed?
That is only one of the many challenges visually impaired people face throughout their lives. To help them navigate a little safely, we at Rotary Club of Aundh had organized a Mobility workshop. In the workshop, the girls were trained to use the white cane, identify potholes or obstacles with the help of the cane and cross the road safely. They were also trained to identify grains and vegetables, clothes, textures, etc only through touch or smell. The important aspect of the workshop is that Resource Persons Swagat Thorat and Swaroopa Deshpande helped the girls to become confident and independent in their movement.
Mobility Training Workshop for Visually Challenged girls on 26-27July 2025 has benefitted 25 girls of Sai Guru Seva Sanstha at Ambegaon. This is a hostel for Visually Challenged girls, who come from smaller towns and lower income households and stay there for college education. They are provided accommodation and food at a very nominal cost.
It is a part of Project Akhand conceptualised and initiated by our club for provide skill training to the Visually Challenged to make them capable of earning their livelihood and become an asset to the family, not a liability!
