Dear Rotary Family Members,
Warm Greetings and Best Wishes from the desk of past District Governor Prashant Deshmukh R I DISTRICT
3131.
It is my immense pride and pleasure to reach out to all of you and express of few words about our great
organization – Rotary International.
I came to Pune around 1985 and was inspired and attracted to the humanitarian projects executed by Rotary
Clubs in Pune. This drove me to be a chartered member of a new Rotary Club namely Rotary Club of Pune Up-
Town. This brought me much closer to various clubs in and around Pune, till I ultimately became the President of
Rotary Club of Pune Up-Town, this was the best happening in my life where in I could motivate all the club
members to perform at their best. We completed more than 150 community service projects and were declared
the Best President of District 3131. I also got an opportunity to work very closely with the veteran Rotary leaders
including late PDG, Rtn. Vittal Rao. (District Governor 1997-98)
My journey at district level started in 1999-2000 when I went on to perform responsible roles including Director-
Membership, Assistant Governor, District Secretary and was finally popularly selected as leader of the District
(District Governor) for the year 2016-17.
I tried to have maximum participation of Rotarians families and the performance of the year was highly
appreciated by Rotary International. Few of the Rotarians are as under:
Achievements as District Governor 2016.17:
1) Outstanding performances this year on Membership, Foundation (Million Dollar District).
2) Literacy: District was declared as Supreme Star while majority of Clubs got star Award.
3) Innovative Service Projects that include occupational Health Center at Kurkumbh, Blood Bank at Chakan and
Daund, Hospital at Dehu, Human Milk Van and Banks Clinic on Wheels. Received outstanding Service Project
Award from Rotary International for Deaf and Dumb Children
4) A record 15,000 Teacher’s Trained across Pune and Raigad Districts.
5) Rain Water Harvesting Projects giving water covering 35 villages to rain shadow areas.
6) 5lac Tree Plantation
7) 4000 bottles of Blood Donated
8) E- Voting, International RYLA and Peace Symposium.
9) 33 Outstanding Service Projects were covered by Rotary News including Cover story’s on Happy Schools,
Literacy and Project mentioned above.
10) Gave Service Above Self Award to Rtn. Marutrao Jadhav
11) Outstanding Service Project Award (Saksham) by Rotary International
12)Rotary International Zonal Award for Public Image
13) RILM Award as Super Star Dist for outstanding performance in T.E.A.C.H.
We were number one at Rotary International in the NGSE programme and were the first to implement a service
project through CSR and Rotary participation. The CSR has now become a boon for implementing service
projects across India. This was indeed a big gift from 3131 to Rotary India. We also tried for World Peace centre
in Pune and conducted first World Peace Conference in Pune at MIT which was chaired by Rtn. Paul Netzel the
trustee Chair of the Rotary Foundation.
The journey still continued and I took the responsibility of Vice Governor RID 3131, ARRFC, ARPIC, along with
other responsibilities of Rotary International guiding various Districts in Zone 7.
I am glad that all my Presidents and District Team members are doing great at RI and district level taking the
district far beyond and is rated in the first 5 districts in the World. I thank you and district team for giving me the
opportunity to share a few words and my feelings through this write-up.
