Initiative of ROTARY CLUB OF PUNE CENTRAL – Disease Prevention & Treatment Month – December 2024

Rotary Club of Pune Central is proud to share the news of a remarkable milestone by PBMA's H.V. Desai Eye Hospital. On the occasion of the Pune Ophthalmic Society Annual Conference 2024, this hospital was honored to host Live Surgery Broadcasts for this prestigious event, held at Baner Pune on 14th December 2024.

This is part of project implemented under largest India CSR grant of RY 2022-23, where ARCH KLUMPH FOUNDATION Circle MEMBER Rtn. Nitin Desai & Ann Meena Desai of Desai Brothers Ltd donated Rs.3.00 Cr. More than 15000 cataract surgeries have been carried out under this grant.

The live surgeries session witnessed participation from over 400 delegates, including distinguished leaders like Dr.Sameer Basak, President of the All India Ophthalmology Society (AIOS), and Dr. Ragini Parekh, President of the Pune Ophthalmic Society. In addition, 14 expert surgeons from various states across India showcased their exceptional skills in our state-of-the-art 

Operation theater complex. PBMA HV Desai Eye hospital is humbled by the recognition and compliments received for its OT infrastructure and the quality of patient care it upholds. This achievement reflects the collective dedication and excellence of the entire team, and it inspires the club  to continue setting benchmarks in the field of ophthalmology.

EYE CHECK UP CAMP at RALEGAN SIDDHI- Parner Taluka- Ahmednagar District,Maharashtra

A successful Eye Check-up Camp was carried out at the Ralegan Siddhi School, founded by renowned social activist Shri. ANNA HAZARE, leader of the village, which  is accredited in helping in the development of the village.

The camp was sponsored by the ROTARY CLUB OF PUNE CENTRAL under the guidance of Community Eye Care Foundation, led by the esteemed Dr. Shailesh. The entire initiative was led by one of the very senior Rotarian of Rotary Club of Pune Central, Rtn. Oni Kakajiwala & Ann Nafisa Kakajiwala and ofcourse with the support & contribution from members of Rotary Club of Pune Central.

* A total of 657 individuals were screened, including students and school staff.

* 539 students had normal vision.

* 58 students were advised to wear spectacles.

* 16 individuals were referred to a clinic for further evaluation.

* 7 school staff members were screened.

* 2 patients were diagnosed with developmental cataracts.

* 30 students were found to be colour vision blind.

* 5 students had squint.

* 10 students had amblyopia (lazy eye).

* 4 individuals underwent dilated check-ups.
