Rotary has always been at the forefront when it comes to International collaborations. Be it undertaking various Global grant projects for social welfare, the Rotary International Youth Exchange programme or activities of its newly formed International Avenue.
Art India Foundation, a charitable organisation actively engaged in running innovative programmes in areas of art and education in association with the Russian Center for Science and Culture recently organised “Kazache Rajdolye” an inter-cultural programme of Russian Folk dances featuring young Cossack dancers from Pyatigorsk, along with Kathak performances by dancers from India at the Symbiosis Vishwabhavan on 19th January 2026.
The International Avenue team of Rotary Club Pune Gandhi Bhavan, Dist 3131, with its principles of promoting peace and international brotherhood, took it up to actively support this initiative. With the help of generous donations from many of its own club members, RCPGB signed up as one of the major sponsors for the programme. The Club and Avenue team including President Rtn Ashwini Shiledar, Director of the Avenue Rtn and PHF Dr Lalit Shimpi and Rtn PP Ujjwala Barve were involved in the coordination.
The programme turned out to be a resounding success. The troupe of young Kazaakh dancers enthralled the audience with their energetic performance. Such a physically demanding dance form executed to such perfection by the young lads, complemented more so perfectly by beautiful lasses in their colourful attires and nimble, graceful and flawless dance steps was a treat to watch.
The interspersed Kathak performances between their acts gave the audience a feeling of true mixture of cultures. The surprise performance of the Kazakh girls on an Indian songs was an icing on the cake and yet again proved that art has no cultural, linguistic or geographical barriers.
Reflecting on the success of the programme and the huge response it received, Director International Avenue of RCPGB Dr Lalit Shimpi stated that such International collaborative efforts of similarly aligned organisations bring about enhanced cooperation between countries and seeks to make the citizens of the world feel like one, truly reflecting the all encompassing core value of Rotary and this years motto “Unite for good”
