Rotary Clubs Step Up: A Beacon of Hope for Flood-Affected Communities in Maharashtra
In the wake of devastating floods, communities often find themselves in desperate need of support and resources. Rotary Clubs have emerged as vital players in providing timely assistance to affected areas, embodying the spirit of humanitarian service. In District 3131, under the leadership of Governor Rtn Santosh Marathe, a dedicated Disaster Management Team is leading efforts to effectively organize and distribute aid to those in need.
Recently, the Rotary Club of Pimpri Elite made a significant impact in the flood-stricken Marathwada region of Maharashtra. With crucial support from MLA Mahesh Dada Landge and his back-office team led by Sachin Phondke & Aniket Gaikwad. with the suggestion of the Rotary Disaster Management team, this club rallied together to provide essential relief to villagers residing in hard-to-reach areas. This impressive initiative was led by President Rtn. Irrfann Aawate playing pivotal roles in the project’s execution. They were joined by Hon. Secretary Anil Bhandurge, Project Coordinator Rtn. Mahadev Shendkar Rtn. Sadashiv Kale, Rtn. Rahul Somani and Chartered President Rtn. Ravindra Bhave, all of whom contributed to the success of this effort.
In total, the Rotary Club of Pimpri Elite distributed 50 truckloads of groceries to flood-affected communities. This massive relief operation showcased a remarkable level of collaboration and efficiency, with project costs surpassing 65+ lakhs Indian rupees, approximately USD 0.7 million.
Dr. Rajiv Gokhale, a member of the District Disaster Management Team, helped the project, providing essential guidance to ensure its success. “Swift action is crucial when responding to natural disasters,” said Rtn Santosh Marathe. “The combined efforts of our dedicated team and local leaders ensure that aid reaches the most vulnerable populations promptly.”
Local MLA Mahesh Dada Landge also expressed gratitude for the Rotary Club's unwavering commitment to service. “In times of crisis, it is our collective responsibility to support our communities. The efforts by the Rotary Club of Pimpri Elite have made a significant difference in the lives of many,” he stated. The flood relief initiative in Marathwada is just one of many extensive humanitarian projects undertaken by Rotary Clubs across the region.
