Updates from AG Rtn Dr. Zimra R Israel Back

In Rotary International, an Assistant Governor (AG) is a volunteer leadership role within a Rotary district. I am honoured that District Governor 25-26, Rtn Santosh Marathe identified my strong leadership and communication skills and gave me the opportunity to serve as a link between him and the 4 clubs assigned to me during his tenure.

Before the year began, I met with the presidents regularly both formally and informally to guide them set and achieve goals particularly membership, projects and fundraising.  I kept clubs aligned and effective, encouraged them so that their community projects and global initiatives run smoothly at the grassroots level.  I ensured that clubs followed Rotary guidelines and shared District updates.  It was here that my expertise as a past Club President came in very handy.

An Assistant Governor in Rotary International is a voluntary assignment and takes time, travel and effort, so the “gain” is mostly in influence, growth, and opportunity. That said, the benefits are very real, in my case I made many “new friends” from Rotary club of Poona, Rotary Club of Pune Koregaon Park, Rotary club of Pune Far East and Rotary club of Pune NIBM. If the AG role is used well, it leads to further leadership growth, strong network and influence at multiple levels across regions, recognition and credibility, exposure and learning and most of all personal satisfaction.  Helping clubs grow, solve problems, and improve community impact was a big motivator for me.
