* Millet “Food for Life” Initiative: The Rotary District  initiated a special awareness program titled “Millet – Food for Life” to promote the use of traditional and nutritious grains among communities. This initiative aligns with Rotary’s focus on health, nutrition, and sustainable agriculture.
Objective: The main objective of the program was to spread awareness about the health benefits of millets, encourage their inclusion in daily diets, and support farmers growing millets through increased demand and value addition.
Program Highlights:
A seminar and interactive session were organized for members and local residents on the importance of millets such as jowar, bajra, ragi, and foxtail millet.
Nutrition experts explained how millets help in managing diabetes, heart diseases, and obesity.
Demonstration of millet-based recipes like ragi dosa, millet khichdi, and jowar roti showcased the ease of cooking and taste appeal.
Distribution of millet-based food packets among school children and community members promoted healthy eating habits.
Collaboration with local farmers and women self-help groups encouraged millet cultivation and small-scale food processing units.
Impact:
The campaign successfully increased awareness of millets as a sustainable, climate-resilient, and highly nutritious food source. Many participants pledged to include millets in their daily meals, supporting the theme “Millets – Smart Food for a Healthy Future.”
