After seven months and more than 9,000 miles on the road, Harrogate-
based Rotarian Thorsten Bruce has completed an epic unsupported journey
from North Yorkshire to Nepal - a feat of endurance that spanned 20
countries and raised over £19,000 for charity.
Setting off in March 2025, Thorsten pedalled through Europe, Turkey, Georgia, Azerbaijan,
Central Asia, China, Pakistan, India and Nepal, tracing a demanding route that included
two of the highest and most remote roads in the world, the Pamir Highway and the
Karakoram Highway.
Along the way, the Yorkshireman climbed 350,000 feet - roughly the equivalent of scaling
Mount Everest twelve times - crossing deserts, high mountain passes and regions where
few cyclists venture.
“This journey was about far more than distance,” Thorsten said. “It was about discovery,
perseverance, and above all, kindness. I was blown away by the generosity of strangers -
people who had very little financially but still offered me food, shelter and friendship and
expected nothing in return.”
