Paediatric Heart Surgeries

Rotary Club of Poona planned to support the paediatric heart surgeries  through Global Grant worth Rs 30lakhs for 20 patients with congenital heart disease, at the Sri Satya Sanjeevani Centre for Child Heart Care at Kharghar, Navi Mumbai, On 15th of May the Club donated ₹ 7.5 lakh which has given a new lease of life to 5 young children and young adults. The remaining surgeries will be funded over the next two months.

Significant Step Towards Women Empowerment

To enable the women of Kashal village, located in the Maval taluka of Pune district, to pursue their goals, Rotary Club of Poona in collaboration with DISHA Foundation has undertaken and successfully completed two skill training courses. In the month of May, 30 women completed the stitching course whereby they can now stitch their own blouses in 11 different patterns, saving a minimum cost of Rs.150 per blouse. Few of these women will also be able to start small tailoring businesses from their homes. Besides this, 40 women participated in the hand embroidery – ‘Aari’ work. In addition to training, embroidery kits were distributed to all 40 participants. This initiative marks a significant step towards women’s empowerment in Kashal creating new avenues for economic self-reliance and social upliftment in a community that previously lacked such opportunities.
