5000 Kits, 5000 Smiles: Rotary Club of Pune Cantonment and SCAW Illuminate Lives Through Children’s Bliss

From 21 to 29 November 2025, the Rotary Club of Pune Cantonment (RCPC) led its flagship initiative, Children’s Bliss, in partnership with Sleeping Children Around the World (SCAW), 11 Rotary Clubs across the District, and CSR partner Desai Brothers Ltd. Over nine days, the project reached communities across Pune and Satara, distributing 5,000 comprehensive sleeping kits—each containing 39 items including a mattress, blanket, pillow, clothing, footwear, and school supplies—to children who needed them most.
This year’s initiative was especially meaningful as it aligned with SCAW’s remarkable 55-year legacy of service. Since 1970, SCAW has provided nearly 2 million bedkits across 34 countries. Its global footprint—from India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Nepal to Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, the Philippines, Honduras, and beyond—underscores the depth of its humanitarian commitment.
RCPC’s partnership with SCAW since 1994 has enabled large-scale outreach in and around Pune. Over the years, distributions have reached 94,000 children across 2,000 schools in 5 districts, demonstrating the sustained impact of this collaboration. Children’s Bliss 2025 stands proudly within this continuum of service.
This year, RCPC was joined by Rotary Clubs including RC Pune Gandhi Bhavan, RC Pune Shivajinagar, RC Pune Metro, RC Pune Saras Baug, RC Poona North, RC Narayangaon Highway, RC Indapur, RC Indapur Central, RC Poona, RC Nigdi-Pune, and RC Poona Airport. Together, these clubs ensured that the initiative reached schools and communities in Koregaon, Khandala, Junnar, Indapur, Malthan, Loni Kalbhor, and Pune City, creating a meaningful impact across both districts.
The emotional resonance of the project was unmistakable. Children arrived in neat uniforms, often holding hands with their parents, their faces lighting up as they saw the colourful kits laid out before them. Many embraced their new pillows or backpacks instantly, as though receiving something precious and personal. The images captured during the distributions—children proudly lifting their kits overhead, groups seated in school halls awaiting their turn, families travelling together with their new belongings—reflect the dignity and joy that define Children’s Bliss.
Volunteers worked tirelessly, unloading trucks filled with kits, organising distribution lines, and ensuring that every child received their items with care. These scenes echoed SCAW’s global tradition of service: a community of engaged volunteers who collectively contributed over 90,000 hours last year alone.
Children’s Bliss also strengthened Rotary fellowship. Volunteers from RCPC and partner clubs travelled together across rural and urban landscapes, sharing early-morning chai, long bus rides, and the satisfaction of collective service. The pre-distribution dinner set the tone for unity and purpose, while the concluding celebration honoured the dedication of every volunteer who contributed to the initiative’s success.
The smooth execution of a project of this magnitude was made possible by the coordinated leadership of Captains and Co-Captains across all participating clubs. Their meticulous planning, logistical oversight, and on-ground management ensured that each kit reached its intended recipient with dignity and efficiency. Their efforts exemplified Rotary’s commitment to service above self.
For RCPC, Children’s Bliss 2025 was not merely a distribution drive—it was a journey of compassion, collaboration, and shared humanity. It connected local service with a global mission, while creating new memories of joy and hope. Through 5,000 kits, the initiative created 5,000 smiles, strengthened Rotary bonds, and reaffirmed the power of service to transform lives.
