Rotary Club of Poona Downtown: Solapur Camp
Back
The Inali Prosthetic Hand Distribution Camp was held in Solapur at Terapanth Bhavan, Solapur on 1st February 2026
This was the 55th Inali Prosthetic Hand Distribution Camp, conducted by the Rotary Club of Poona Downtown. Rtn Pradeep Munot, Jitu Mehta along with some volunteers represented RCPD. It was hosted by the Jain Social Groups International Federation, Solapur Zone, with support from Terapanth Sabha, IWC Starlet, and Lions Solapur Midtown.
The Inali Prosthetic Hand Camp was an entirely new initiative for the Jain Social Group. While the initial promotion progressed slowly, it gained strong momentum in the final week, resulting in nearly three times the number of registrations. A radio talk by Project In-Charge Parimal Bhandari, along with the tireless efforts of the entire team, created a significant impact.
The Orientation Programme held the previous evening provided valuable information to the Solapur volunteers about the Inali Foundation, the Inali Hand, and the overall camp process, while also addressing and clarifying several queries.
The camp commenced at 9:00 a.m., and the final beneficiary completed the process at 9:15 p.m., reflecting the dedication and efficiency of the organizing teams.
One of the beneficiaries was a bilateral amputee. Although he could be fitted with only one prosthetic hand, as his right arm had been amputated at the shoulder. His joy was evident when he learned to operate the prosthetic hand by holding a stylus in his mouth — a moment that truly reflected the spirit of hope and adaptability.
Jain Social Group President Chetan Surana, Secretary Mahesh Nale, and Project In-Charge Parimal Bhandari were ably supported by Bhavya Shah, Pinky Kawad, Rajesh Shah, Swapnil Munot, and several other volunteers. Rock-solid support from Gautam Chhajed, Akash Chordia, First Lady Shailaja Surana, and Suchi Surana, the dynamic daughter of the President, who remained actively involved from start to finish, ensured smooth execution of the camp.
Dedicated NSS volunteers from Walchand College — Ram, Lavanya, Tasneem, and Radhika — efficiently managed registrations, training, counselling, and physiotherapy. Dilipbhai Mehta, Chairman, Maharashtra Region, Jain Social Group, was present throughout the camp, offering valuable guidance and unwavering support to the JSG teams.
Smt. Veena Pawar, Additional Commissioner, Solapur Municipal Corporation, visited the camp and highly appreciated the noble humanitarian initiative. Several dignitaries of the Jain Social Group from Akluj, Pandharpur, Bijapur, Kalburgi, and other locations also attended the camp.
The camp concluded successfully with prosthetic hands fitted and distributed to 68 beneficiaries, including two bilateral amputees who received prosthetic hands for both limbs.
The event received extensive coverage in both print and electronic media, helping spread awareness about this impactful initiative. The JSGians proved to be exemplary hosts, extending warm, courteous, and thoughtful hospitality throughout the programme.
