When Drops Become an Ocean of Sight
Every act of giving begins quietly. One person donates a little. Another adds what they can. A club contributes from its annual fund. A district steps in with support. Each drop seems small on its own - but when they come together, they form an ocean powerful enough to change lives. The recent Global Grant for PBMA’s H.V. Desai Eye Hospital is a shining example of this collective strength.
Through Global Grant GG2574823, support amounting to USD 159,422 (INR 1,37,10,351) came together to bring better sight to underprivileged patients. Of this, USD 134,004 (INR 1,01,02,451) strengthened the hospital with essential ophthalmic equipment, and USD 25,233 (INR 21,70,000) funded 620 free cataract surgeries. With the interest earned on the grant amount, another 110 surgeries (INR 3,85,000) were completed - proof that generosity continues to ripple outward long after the first contribution is made.
This remarkable impact was made possible because many clubs and organisations chose to stand together. This project became possible because of the contributions of:
Sankara Eye Foundation, USA, Rotary Club of Pune Central, INDIA RID 3131, Rotary Club of Pune Cantonment, INDIA RID 3131, Rotaract Club of Pune Cantonment, INDIA RID 3131, Rotary Club of Cupertino, USA RID 5170, Rotary Club of Charlotte Hall, USA RID 7620, Rotary Districts 3131, 5170, 7610, The Rotary Foundation and of course, the co‑operating organisation, The Poona Blind Men’s Association.
No single club could have created this impact alone. But when clubs across India and the USA pooled their resources, their compassion gained momentum. What began as individual drops became an ocean of service—restoring sight, dignity, and independence to hundreds of people.
And this is where every Rotarian comes in. Each contribution to The Rotary Foundation—whether it is USD 100 or USD 500 or USD 10,000—enters a system that multiplies its power. Through district designations, global partnerships, matching funds, and cross‑border collaboration, a simple act of giving grows far beyond its original size. It becomes equipment in an operating theatre. It becomes a cataract surgery for someone who has waited years to see clearly. It becomes hope.
When we give to The Rotary Foundation, we are not just donating. We are unlocking a multiplier effect that turns individual kindness into large‑scale impact. Together, we create light where darkness once lived.
