Rotary Club of Pune Metro Back
In an increasingly fast-paced and technology-driven world, the rate of change is unprecedented. While progress brings opportunity, it also presents new challenges. Rising cases of chronic stress, anxiety, depression and suicides reflect a growing inability among individuals to cope with everyday pressures and access timely support. Mental health has therefore emerged as a critical concern across all age groups and communities.
Recognizing this need early, the Rotary Club of Pune Metro (RCPM) became one of the pioneers in the district to address this challenge through the launch of the “Manovedh” Initiative four years ago. Manovedh serves as an umbrella platform for all RCPM initiatives aimed at strengthening Mental well-being and proactively taking efforts in addressing mental health concerns before they escalate within society.
Holistic and Tailor-Made Interventions
Each engagement under Manovedh is thoughtfully designed and customized, drawing from a comprehensive set of themes:
  • Mental health awareness
  • Self-image and self-esteem
  • Emotional management
  • Self-confidence and motivation
  • Addictions (including digital dependence)
  • Stress, anger, anxiety, and depression
  • Managing peer and performance pressures
  • Addressing relationship issues, bullying, separation, and financial stress
Structured Programs with Measurable Impact
Manovedh Initiative began by supporting rural students transitioning to urban life in Pune. A structured lecture series—comprising 10 sessions of 2 hours each over five months—was delivered across multiple boys’ and girls’ hostels. In addition to first-year students, senior student “buddies” and hostel wardens were trained to identify early signs of distress and support newcomers effectively.
Addressing exam-related stress emerged as another priority delivering the following.
  • 3-session series for Grade 10 students to help them remain calm and focused during a crucial academic year.
  • 5-session series for Grade 9 students to build preparedness and confidence.
Specialized sessions have also been conducted for:
  • Teachers, to help them manage curriculum changes, institutional pressures, and engage effectively with digitally native Gen Z students.
  • Parents, particularly from underserved communities, to better support their children in a rapidly evolving social environment.
Expanding Scope: Samvedana and RESET
Two impactful offshoots of the Manovedh initiative, that were organized during this year were:
  • “Samvedana” – A program focused on domestic violence awareness and prevention among school children, covering gender sensitivity, equality, empathy, emotional intelligence, power dynamics, and early identification with guided intervention.
  • “RESET” – A one-day seminar designed to build critical awareness among frontline professionals—doctors, counsellors, and psychologists—on various forms of addiction and effective treatment approaches.
Expertise-Driven and Continuously Evolving
The initiative is led by Rtn. Amita Nene and Rtn. Prerana Joshi, who brings significant educational and professional expertise. A key strength of Manovedh lies in its adaptive approach—session content is continuously tailored to the needs of students, schools, and delivery partners. Feedback mechanisms are integral, ensuring that insights from each engagement are incorporated into future programs. Periodic follow-ups also help assess behavioral changes and emerging challenges.
Unlike one-time awareness drives, Manovedh follows a multi-session, phased approach, enabling participants to absorb, reflect, and translate learning into action.
Strong Partnerships for Sustainable Impact
RCPM has built strong, collaborative relationships with beneficiary institutions such as Vidyarthi Sahayyak Samiti, Ramchandra Rathi School, Agashe School, Prerana School, University School, and Pandit Deendayal School, along with expert delivery partners like Baya Karve Institute. These partnerships now enable open dialogue, continuous impact assessment and co-creation of relevant, high-impact solutions, while ensuring seamless execution with institutional support.
Member Engagement and Future Growth
The initiative has been fully supported by all the sitting Club Presidents and all the incoming Presidents. It has deeply engaged Club members, many of whom find the process of community need assessment, solution design highly meaningful. All these sessions are so interesting and involving that many of our club members themselves are enjoying them… Many times, wishing that .. Had they attended these sessions earlier, their life also could have been different. Manovedh initiative has also attracted interest from prospective members with relevant expertise, strengthening RCPM’s capacity to scale its outreach and impact.
The Road Ahead
Looking ahead, RCPM plans to expand Manovedh to more schools in and around Pune while exploring new dimensions of Mental Well-being. Future focus areas include stress related to careers, relationships, aging, chronic health conditions, social isolation and the increasing impact of excessive virtual engagement—across all age groups.
Invitation to Collaborate
Rotary Club of Pune Metro invites Rotarians, Rotary Clubs, CSR partners, and donors to collaborate in this meaningful journey ---  to learn, contribute, or co-create scalable solutions in the Mental Well-being space.
Together, we all can Unite and build a more resilient, aware, and emotionally strong society.
