These are only the representative reactions received from the winners after the glorious Rotary CSR Awards function held on 19th January 2024. Messages of appreciation have poured in from the participating companies on email, whatsapp and during personal interactions at the event; everyone speaking very highly about the quality of the overall awards process, the support provided by the organizing team, the prestigious jury panel, the stature of the chief guest, extremely well-planned awards function, and most of all, the recognition that the companies received, for some of them for the first time, after the dedicated effort of many years!
Rotary CSR Awards 2023 was formally announced in the first week of December. This was the second edition of the Awards, the first edition having been successfully held in 2019. The process of receiving the applications, review for completeness by Rotarians, and selection of awardees by the jury, culminated into a grand awards function at Hyatt Regency, Pune, held to coincide with the Patron Night of the District Conference - Confluence.
The programme received tremendous response from industries not just within the district but also from distant places like Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Indore, and Chennai. A total of 65 companies in 4 categories of Large, Medium, Small and Rising Star companies applied for the awards. Rising Star is a category specially created for the companies that do not fall under the requirement of mandatory CSR. The award categories - Education, Community Development, Healthcare, Environment, and Water & Sanitation - were chosen to align with Rotary's Areas of Focus.
A jury panel comprising prominent personalities such as Dr Mohan Agashe, Sr Lucy Kurian and Mr. Arvind Sethi decided the winners. Rtn. Anant Sardeshmukh also participated in the Jury meeting for selecting the winners. We were indeed privileged to have PRID Michael McGovern, who is the Chair of Rotary International PolioPlus Committee for more than 9 years, as the chief guest for the awards function
Along with the 3 Rotary clubs that instituted Rotary CSR Awards in 2019, Rotary Club of Pune Central, Rotary Club of Pune Deccan Gymkhana and Rotary Club of Pune Heritage, 3 new clubs joined as the host clubs for this year. These are Rotary Club of Nigdi Pune, Rotary Club of Bibwewadi Pune, and Rotary Club of Pune Sahavas. Host clubs made important contributions in the organization of the event by inviting entries and providing financial support.
The organizing team of stalwarts like Rakesh Bhargava, Ravi Kapoor, Jignesh Pandya, Ravi Rajapurkar, Deepak Mahajan, Santosh Marathe, Shital Shah was also supported by rising stars Subhro Sen, Dr Madhura Vipra, Dr Umesh Falak and Vijay Kalbhor. Rtn. Mohan Chaubal led the effort as the Convener of Rotary CSR Awards 2023 under the guidance of DG Manju Phadke and District Trainer PDG Dr Shailesh Palekar.
