Empowering Global Care: Tanzanian Doctors Trained in LN4 Prosthetics:
In January 2025, the Gift of Mobility team (Rotary Club of Poona Downtown) offered to train Tanzanian volunteers, we informed them about the proposed camp in Varanasi to be held on the 20th of July 2025.
Dr. Leonard Halinga, Deputy Director at Sumbawanga Hospital, had already been involved in the project.  On 20th May 2025, Dr. Halinga and Dr. Simon Urassa were shortlisted for training at the Varanasi camp. An invitation letter from RCPD was sent to support their Indian visa applications.
Meanwhile, our team was busy preparing comprehensive training manuals for the Tanzanian doctors. Thanks to the combined efforts of Rtn. Shabbir-R’ann Rashida, Rtn. Asis- R’ann Ipsita, R’ann Dr. Deepika Chadda, Rtn.  Gautam, Rtn. Richard, and Hassan, detailed illustrated manuals—along with videos—were produced for five focus areas: Fitment, Training, and Counselling with Physiotherapy, Camp Administration, and Pre-camp Administration. Hard copies were also prepared.
Rtn. KV Mohan Kumar, Global Ambassador for LN4, was invited to join us for the training, and he graciously accepted.

Both doctors from Tanzania were successfully trained, enabling them to independently organize LN4 camps in Tanzania and elsewhere in the future. As part of the training, they not only learned the LN4 fitting process but also practiced fitting the LN4 hand themselves and guiding beneficiaries on its proper use. In addition to LN4 training, they were introduced to lower limb prosthetics—the renowned ‘Jaipur Foot’—thanks to BMVSS Varanasi. On Tuesday, 22 July 2025, they observed and participated in the making and fitting of a lower limb prosthesis.

Witnessing the beneficiaries use their prosthetic hand and take their first steps with the new limb was a deeply moving moment. This marks a significant milestone in expanding the LN4 initiative internationally.
