One Year with Rotary: Learning, Serving, Growing
29th July 2024, the journey begins, I am officially a Rotarian, a member of the oldest Rotary club of District 3131, Rotary Club of Poona. It's like receiving the key to unlocking a treasure trove...
Monday after Monday, speaker after speaker a whole new world opens up: be it environment, history, finance, education, medicine...I am like a child before a box of chocolates savouring them all...
The interspersed visits vocational and otherwise. The opening of the neo natal unit, the synergy project of school kit distribution with different Rotary Clubs in the district, the artificial limbs project, the eye surgery and cornea transplant project...introduce me to the community service initiatives of our club.
" Money is the lifeline of any project". Two major fundraisers this year -The Dandiya Raas and the Move-A-Thon - teach me the importance of team work, help me make new friends, encourage me to understand how Rotary in general and the Club work. The second one in particular tests and hones my organisational and interpersonal skills and encourages my creativity.
It’s been a rewarding year, a year of opening up to a whole new world, a year of learning and unlearning, of being and growing, a year of catching up with old friends and making new ones, a year of opportunities and hits and misses and much more.
Dear Members of the Rotary Club of Poona, I thank each one of you for making my FIRST YEAR at the Rotary Club a memorable one.
Rtn Farida Irani,
Rotary Club of Poona
